Packing list for a roller ski adventure
In the last part of our world trip we venture into an unknown sport: roller skiing. In Scandinavia the sport is very well known, as it is the summer sport of all cross-country skiers. We learn about the sport in the northeast of the US and are immediately convinced. This sport would be the last part of our world trip.
Once the idea is in our heads, we start searching the Internet for examples and inspiration. The result: nothing. People don't travel on roller skis, but only use them for sports. We find one person who traveled with a backpack. It means we have to invent everything ourselves, but that's just what makes it exciting. Because we have a lot of camera equipment and sometimes need food for a week, we couldn't possibly carry all the luggage on our backs. We would skate with a trailer, but this brings new questions: is it possible to skate with ski poles and a trailer? And most importantly, how do we brake?
Skating with a trailers turns out to be no problem, the brakes are a lot more complicated. Eventually Zoë designs a brake system herself that we can use safely. We load the trailers with our basic equipment and set off for Scandinavia. Four months and 3,500 kilometers later we arrive in Sweden. We have discovered a new method of travel and are convinced that many more people should try this. Below is our complete packing list for the four month long adventure.
Our packing list for a roller ski adventure is more extensive than our packing list for a hike trip. This is because we can carry more in a trailer and we also need more, such as spare wheels and a helmet. On our world trip we are prepared for hot and cold climates so we have both summer and winter clothing in our bags. We also carry a laptop and hard drive in our trailer, lots of camera gear, and some special outdoor tools. If you are going on a shorter skate trip, you can carry less and it is possible to go with a backpack only.

Hi guys! I hope you are doing well! I am from the German lowlands (Oldenburg, not far away from Grroningen) living in Dalarna, Sweden now. I found your website and got inspired to give roller skiing with a trailer (and a dog pulling me) a try. Would you happen to have a bit more info on how you fitted brakes to your trailer? Perhaps a close up picture? I believe I read details about that on your website, but can’t find it right now.
You welded a bar to the trailer frame to which you then bolted caliper brakes, no?
I wish you all the best, Christian
